We dined here with our 2 boys, both under 3. Our waitress Megan, was so nice, patient and offered suggestions. There were not many people as it was around 11:45 a.m. on a Sunday. The alcohol was a pit pricey ($11 for champagne serving) but the food and service made up for it. I had the crab cakes- really good, especially with the sauce on top, hubby had the Eggs Begnaud and he really liked it. Would recommend and plan on going back. Will try not to eat as much so we can try the Abita Root beer float. Bring your wallet and relax, this is not fast food but great food.

Went for dinner last night with the wife during our visit to Breaux Bridge. Food, atmosphere and service all amazing. I has the Alligator cheesecake. Holy cow. Get it. Seriously. We also got the shrimp pasta which was fantastic! This is a must go when in Breaux Bridge.

Great food! Recommended by a friend. Had the salad and chicken and sausage gumbo. Cool place, great service, will come back.

Stopped in here on the way down to Avery Island to hear what the hubbub is about. Old little building that has his charm. I really enjoy the look of the small lift that was turned into the hostess station. The hostess wasn't overly friendly but by no means rude. I had the Shrimp Poboy which was very well prepared. The shrimp are a good size and they were fried to perfection. It was rather odd that the condiments were in packets on the side as opposed to bottled. The poboy was perfectly sized for a lunch portion. Would recommend this stop for a lunch stop.

Located in charming downtown Breaux Bridge, Cafe des Amis is a must stop for a nice meal. It's only about a 5-6 minute drive from I 10. This restaurant is famous for its Saturday zydeco brunch which is a hoot. If you come on a Saturday morning their menu is different and the earlier you get here the better as it is popular with diners. Get there when they open at 8 a.m. if not before. My most recent visit was on a Sunday for lunch. Parking was easy out front. I ordered the Pasta des Amis with grilled shrimp. It arrived 10-15 minutes later. The dish was chocked full of shrimp and corkscrew pasta with very good shredded cheese on top. There were also green and red bell peppers and red onions with some yellow zucchini. The parmesan peppercorn sauce gives a pleasant kick in taste with a little bit of heat. (See my pic). This was an attractive and very good shrimp pasta dish with a lot of flavor (4). You will Ike this so order it. My service was good. Be sure either before or after your meal to walk around the small downtown area and look into the shops nearby. This restaurant is not the only thing that has flavor around here!!!

Absolutely the best food we have had in a long time. Husband had catfish with etoufe sauce and I had pasta. We had to wait because a bus came in so got free deserts. We don't usually get dessert but try the chocolate pecan pie It was wonderful and worth any wait.

My parent came into town and wanted to visit our old favorite restaurant. We called 30 min in advanced to make sure they were open and make reservation. We were told they were open and we didn't need a reservation. We arrived and the lights were out and doors locked. After knocking on the door, a woman answered the door and informed us that they were closed due to "not being busy." The woman told us that they were a family owned business and couldn't afford to stay open due to lack of customers. It was only 7 o'clock. Not too many people eat before 7 o'clock and have the door locked and power off. If you plan on visiting this restaurant, call every 5 min to make sure you they are still open. They have lost this customer.

Absolutely delicious! We had the pecan crated catfish with rice and green beans and the pasta with veggies and chicken. Appetizer was green fried tomatoes. Chef used good amount of salt/pepper/spices. Even the bread that every table gets was great! We'd come back in a heartbeat!

Picked this jewel from the other reviews. It's a quaint place with delicious food. Turtle soup is better than Bookbinders, crawfish pie was delicate, flavorful and delicious. Service was also great! Providing what we needed before we requested, which is the mark of great service, thanks Devon! Will bookmark this jewel for future travels

I'm a northern Minnesotan who's still new to the south. This is my second time in Louisiana and the Cafe de Amis is everything I could want in a small southern cafe. The interior (and exterior) is rustic and authentic but not uninviting. The staff was courteous and attentive, but I'm writing this--my first Yelp review ever--because of the food. My friend got the crawfish cornbread (smothered in a spicy sauce- $9) and a bowl of turtle soup (unique clove broth- $7), which were both excellent. But the reason why I would drive from college in Texas just to eat here again is for the shrimp and grits. At $18 on the menu it seems a little much (and it's an average-size portion) but is worth it. The grits are fried so that there's a delicious crust around them and are then buried under a magical sauce of flavors I can't place but loved more with each savored bite. Add to that a generous topping of shrimp and this is new my favorite shrimp and grits anywhere (sorry Wilmington, NC.) Now I just need to find an excuse to come anywhere near Lafayette again.

I loved the atmosphere and the beignets were so fluffy and doughy and fried to perfection. The atmosphere was lovely, yet really loud but I don't think I would have had it any other way. I was with my parents and family friends- their 6 yo daughter didn't like the noise. It's so fun, with everyone dancing and everyone is so welcoming. Thee food and drinks were good, but it is truly the atmosphere created by the Zydeco band on Saturday mornings that gives this place something super special. Cafe des Amis is also in a fun town outside of Lafayette which I definitely want to come back to explore. Overall, a true Louisiana experience that I sincerely enjoyed.

Best Saturday place! Live music and friendly staff. Only negative is the long line and wait to get in. Well worth it.

What a great spot. Cool Louisiana atmosphere with authentic Cajun cuisine. I had the turtle soup, chicken and sausage gumbo and the crawfish pie. Absolutely delicious and some of the best food I've ever eaten. Located in an awesome part of Lafayette, Cafe des Amis is sure to leave you full and satisfied.

This place used to be awesome. Now the food quality has gone way down. The salads were pre-made and was not fresh. Dressings were bland. You had to dress your own po-boy with a wimpy slice of tomato and packet of mayo. The coconut cream pie was over-beaten and tasted like butter. The sweet potato fries were great.

The Zydeco breakfast here is a national treasure. You sit at communal tables facing a dance floor and band. Whether you love Zydeco music or know nothing about it,(like us) this place is a blast. The music is great, the people on the dance floor ranged from 20-85 and the feeling was friendly and communal. You don't go for the food (the breakfast was forgettable) but the people and dancing. We got in line at 7:15am thinking the doors opened at 7:30. Luckily we were wrong as they opened at 8 and we barely got seated. Don't miss it.

We ordered the alligator cheesecake, the half and half and red beans and rice. The cheese cake had a great flavor to it however there was a huge issue with the dish. It was clearly microwaved as the edges were scalding hot and the center was barely warm. We asked the waitress if it was microwaved and she replied that she did not know. First of all, a server should know how the food is prepared, she was either incompetent or lying. Next came the half and half, which is half fried craw fish/ half crawfish étouffée. The fried portion of the dish was great. Fresh and hot. The étouffée however was barely heated. It came with potato salad and some okra dish. The okra seemed microwaved also being incredibly hot. They did get the potato salad right but that's almost fool proof. The red beans and rice never came but we were glad that they didn't. We were planning on trying dessert but opted not to after tasting the poor entrees. I think this place may do better with breakfast but it is only served on the weekends.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AND DELICIOUS!! Sorry for screaming. I cannot believe I had never been here before. I joined my sister for lunch here and we left as happy as a bug snug in a rug. The restaurant is cute, cute, cute. The service is impeccable and the food is downright amazing. We had the Crawfish and Alligator Sausage Cheesecake...sounds disgusting but couldn't be further from it. We decided to share that and can I just say we were fighting for those last couple of bites of that puppy. I would have gladly knocked her out of her chair for the rest of it all to myself but I knew we had more food coming so I restrained myself. For my main dish I had the crawfish pie and wow. Just wow. That was so damn good. My sister tried the crawfish enchiladas and I didn't have a chance to try a bite but if the fact that she ate the whole dish with her eyes closed and sighing tells you anything I'm betting it was great. When we came we had *just* missed the Zydeco Breakfast. Every Saturday morning they have live Cajun bands and you can two step your heart away. Um. Yes, please. That immediately went on my bucket list so I'll be back for sure. There's nothing better than great food, great music and some two stepping. And it's all in the same place. How awesome.

Really good. Just had the lunch special and my husband had the shrimp po-boy. Couldn't stay long as we were in a road trip, BUT plan to return again to sample the menu and the music. Service was great and personable. Tons of interesting things to look at in the cafe. It's a neat mixed space room. For example: As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by a hostess in a converted elevator turned into a hostess stand. ( atop are the gears ) the place is festoon with French, Marti Gras and Cajun decor. Also autographs on the wooden posts around the space. Please note: we spied they have coaster beepers, so you may have a wait if you plan your visit for the evening. This is some place, a gem located a bit off the interstate. It's worth the time. Great shopping too. The cafe is located in a well worn, but adorned architectural part of town. It's a nice surprise and sight.

While in the area, visiting family, my son and I met up for brunch. Going by recommendation here on yelp, I ordered the crawfish cornbread and the shrimp and grits with a slice of coconut cream pie to take and enjoy later. I prefer my cornbread not so dry and there was plenty left behind. The shrimp and grits were another story. O.M.G.! It was a party for my taste buds. I've never had fried grits in the form of a patty and the shrimp in sauce was one of the most decadent flavors I've ever tasted. My elderly mom, with a very small appetite, had trouble putting down the fork when she tasted the pie I brought home for her. My son ordered the Tasso omelet and he said he's tasted better. I did take home the andouille grits he didn't eat and enjoyed them for breakfast the next day. The coffee was good as was the service. I miss living here :-(

The hostess was incredibly rude. There was going to be a 30-45 minute wait for food/to be sat. We asked to sit at the bar and she was literally standing at the bar doing nothing and refused to serve us alcohol.

Andouille cheese grits, andouille cheese grits, andouille cheese grits! Simply awesome. The coffee was great too! Only went for breakfast and coffee but man, was it good.

saturday morning, great music, great ambience, thanx mes amis, but the breakfast.......heavy, overdone, a touch boring. maybe i m just getting tired of all that running cream, cheese and other fats, running down the biscuits, running down the plate, running down your throat, as out of control as the atchafalaya in to the bayou

This is the place to be on a Saturday morning! Great music, good food! Live band, lots of dancing! What a great way to start the day! Check this little place out if you're in the area, be prepared to wait though, seems the word is already out about this terrific find!

My wife and I love this quaint, small town restaurant (located in an historic building in an historic downtown). We've been here about 4 times and have never had a bad experience with the service, the food, or drinks. Love the their turtle soup, crab cakes, fish dishes (Yellowfin Tuna Rockefeller) and pastas. The White Chocolate Bread Pudding is delicious.

Ok so - it's a really cute place. Was a little surprised by the menu - it looked more like a dinner menu than lunch, not sure if there is a specific lunch menu or lunch special - we didn't know about either. Had chicken gumbo, which had a good bite to it. The sausage was tasty and it had big chicken pieces. Also had the crabcake ap. I got it grilled. It was pretty yummy. We also had some tasty bread. I thought it was a bit pricey for the area and for lunch.

So good!! Enjoyed the alligator cheesecake (quiche), cup of shrimp and okra, cup of chicken and sausage, crawfish pie for entree. Our kids had the fried shrimp. The cheese cake appetizer was very meaty and cheesey. Soups were full of flavor. Crawfish pie was huge!! And the kids shrimp had a tasty, crispy batter. I would eat here again to try other menu items.

Not too impressed! Had the fish entree, the tunas was not seasoned at all. The only thing great about it was the etufee that garnished it. The corn was good , not to impressed withe potato salad though. They should hire more wait staff. The young lady was pleasant, but appeared overwhelmed. Just driving through wand wanted some good food and sadly disappointed:(sorry just being honest.

One of the best breakfast experiences. Ever. The best etoufee I have ever had (and I visit LA from TX quite often). Even if you aren't a zydeco fan you would appreciate the experience. Breakfast is served on communal table next to the dance floor where you can watch the dancers bustin moves and breaking a sweat before 9am. It's hard to keep from tapping your toes listening to the music while you eat.

Mediocre--a far cry from what it once was. Breakfast was a high disappointment the last two times I ate here. I ordered eggs over easy, but they were well done; overcooked, dry brittle bacon; and runny watery tasteless grits. The waitress admitted that the grits were instant--imagine that! There's no excuse for that in Louisiana, a state known for delicious food. The biscuit was tasty but not hot. We will not eat here again. Cafe des Amis must be under new management because it used to be wonderful. The first time we had bad food here was two months ago. We gave them a second chance thinking that it might have been a fluke. No, it was not--the food was again consistently bad.

Staying at a cabin nearby, we got the recommendation to come here. The place was so cute, so quaint, so quirky! We were however concerned when the waitress was not patient with my friend who asked for the wine menu- she had to ask for it thrice before she got the menu. I ordered the turtle soup, something to check off my bucket list. And all I can say- I would suggest, don't order it. Even with drinks, ehhh. The crawfish etouffee pie, OMG.. so good that I had to inhale everything- I was humming happily while savoring the taste. The friend ordered the crab stuffed gulf fish, and she liked it, although she regretted that she hadn't ordered crawfish pie instead. I'd like to come back here and try BBQ Shrimp Pont Breaux one day.

Excellent food and warm friendly service. One of the highlights of my trip through Cajun Country. Best Bloody Mary I've ever had. The cafe has an artfully yet quaint redesigned interior. Considering that your other options are Waffle House, this wins hands down.

Saturday morning is the BEST time to eat breakfast b/c of the live zydeco and lively people who loves to dance. Sunday morning is very quiet, menu is different and the food was noticeably bland.

Fantastic! Crawfish pie!!! Like you never had it before. The warm ginger bread maple concoction with a huge bowl of creamy ice cream - deadly and delicious!! Oysters fried to perfection. Go now!!

We were looking forward to stopping at Cafe Des Amis on our way to New Orleans. We showed up at 8pm on a Wednesday and the doors were locked, even though there were bartenders and a few people inside. Their hours clearly state that they close at 9pm so we were super annoyed. How unprofessional!

AWESOME place to stop for brunch on the way back to Houston from LSU. They were short staffed because of a no show server, but we were in and out in an hour! Pitchers of mimosa and a Cajun breakfast I can't pronounce!

Ate here twice 6 years ago and the food was superb. Service was both friendly and efficient. This year I am sad to say that the food was mediocre and overpriced. Eggs were cold on 2 occasions. Sauces bland and virtually tasteless. Desserts were excellent. On 4/24 one dinner server was very good and pleasant, but on three visits most were bordering on being snotty automatons. They seemed to feel put upon. They were understaffed, but I went to Buck & Johnny's and Pamplona ( lunch on Sat of Festival) and the service was efficient and pleasant. Café n eeds a dedicated bartender, a front of house manager, and maybe a couple of servers who are over 35 and know what they are doing. Sad to see an exceptional place fall. Perhaps their reputation spoiled them.

My wife and I found this quaint little spot thanks to Yelp!!! We were on the third leg of our road trip from Flagstaff, AZ to Washington DC (via Houston), for my wife's summer rotation. We wanted to find memorable spots to enjoy and Cafe Des Amis lived up to the challenge. Tucked away in a small town just outside of Lafayette, Cafe Des Amis sits on a small street that seemed to be the setting of every romantic comedy I was forced to watch from 2000-2010. Ambiance: 4 Stars While the inside was so cute, my wife and I had our two puppies on this summer adventure, and we decided to sit in one of the three spots on the patio. The patio is really more of a sidewalk along the road of small shops, and it allowed us to do a little people watching. If we did not have our puppies along for the ride, we definitely would have found ourselves inside and enjoying the local art that is displayed throughout the restaurant. Service: 5 Stars We were greeted promptly upon sitting down, with ice water for not only us, but for our road dogs as well. Evan, the waiter was very informative not only with what was on the menu, but also in sharing the history of this little spot. He was very attentive, but not overly so. Food: 5 Stars My wife played it safe (as she often does) and ordered the Pecan Crusted Catfish. She found this dish to be very flavorful. While I ordered the Crawfish Pie, which you must try. As usual, my wife spent more time on my plate than hers and I was the winner of our traditional who ordered the best meal contest we hold at every new restaurant we try. Overall: 5 Stars While I won't be driving from Houston to Breaux Bridge just to eat here, if I am traveling along I-10 anywhere close to Lafayette, I will definitely take a detour to enjoy a few other things from their menu. ** This Review is from May 2013

Friend in Lafayette recommended for brunch so I stopped in on my way across Louisiana. The place was packed so I was expecting a lot. The bloody mary's are amazing - homemade recipe! However, I was a little let down. I ordered the boudin and eggs only to find they were out of boudin. I ended up with eggs & bacon, a biscuit and grits. The presentation was underwhelming. Even the guy next to me commented the same. The food was good, no doubt. But I think I would have to order something a little more such as gumbo.

Great restaurant, even better when there's live music during the Cajun Brunch or on Wednesday nights. The Alligator Sausage Cheesecake is outstanding and the BBQ Shrimp appetizer is also very good (plus the shrimp are already peeled which is preferable if you want to dine without a bib). Crawfish etouffee has a fairly thick sauce with perfect spice and is predictably indulgent - even more in the "pot pie" presentation which includes puff pastry. If possible, leave room for dessert though - the Gateau Sirop was absolutely phenomenal. Wow. Virtually every day has a different 2-for-1 drink special (Wednesdays is margaritas) and lunch is also very good - go for the gumbo & po-boy combination or a nice oyster salad. The location in New Iberia is also good but you can't beat Cafe Des Amis when in the general vicinity of Breaux Bridge.

Very good restaurant. Consistent food quality and service. Sunday brunch is nice. Usually pancakes aren't listed on the menu but they will make them if you ask. You should ask! They are delicious. There is something slightly different about them that makes them stand out. I'm not sure what it is, but there is a hint of something tangy in the taste. Also the pecan crusted shrimp are yummy as is the shrimp and grits. They also make a fine Bloody Mary.

Went here for Sunday brunch on a weekend trip out to Cajun country. I got the shrimp and okra gumbo and the crawfish cornbread. Food was great - wish it had been a touch hotter (the food looked like it might have been waiting a few minutes to be delivered to our table), but it was tasty. Loved the music and the general atmosphere - worth the trip to Breaux Bridge!

Quaint eatery. We weren't looking for anything too heavy as we had dinner plans. We both order the house salad and soup. Me, the corn and crab bisque. Chris, the turtle soup. Now, I believe in trying "new" things, but I am very cautious about ordering turtle soup from anywhere outside of Commanders... just saying. It's THE best. This one not so much... even with the sherry. I advise against ordering it. My soup was great on the other hand. Our salads were a good size. Filling enough for what I wanted. Chris on the other hand left hungry unfortunately. The staff was friendly enough. Atmosphere was typical lower parish café. The building has an interesting history. The used to make caskets on the second floor and the building had one of the first elevators in the area. That part was fun. We showed up just before a rush. That's always a good sign. Can't promise I would go back if I were in the area again, but I wouldn't avoid it either.

Cafe Des Amis is not too far off of I-10 for the traveler and worth the adventure to get there. My late dinner was a bright spot on a dreary day. The coconut creme pie was good too.

If you like crawfish, you will love this place. I usually turn my nose up at dishes like crawfish and alligator sausage quiche, but it made me a believer. The etouffee on top was creamy and chock full of crawfish. They didn't stint on what was inside either. We also tried the crawfish pie. Light puffy crust and more and slightly different etouffee. Crawfish au gratin on eggplant rounds was heavenly, again in spite of my usual prejudice--this time against eggplant. I am not wild about spice cake but the gateau sirop was a perfect end to this lunchtime feast. It goes to show that any ingredient prepared by a first-rate chef can transport you. We also ordered the BBQ shrimp and were as happy as my horse with a carrot (ecstatic). We didn't regret the restaurant and I everyone else looked like they felt the same.

We went for the zydeco breakfast on Saturday morning. It was AMAZING! If you are in the area you have to go. If you aren't in the area, then get there! The music was phenomenal, and everyone was up and dancing. The food was delicious, and the service was great. We arrived at about 10:15 and had to wait maybe half an hour before getting seated. The drinks were a bit pricey, but the food was a steal. It was a wonderful experience.

Great place. Stopped by here on the way back from NOLA. Had lunch and ate the signature dish crawfish pie which was fabulous The sauce was very tasty and the puff pastry with the pie was light, fluffy and crunchy, very fresh. The side order of okra was a great addition. My wife had the BBQ shrimp which she also enjoyed but the shrimp were hard to peel. Service was great and parking was easy. One suggestion to make--serve the bbq shrimp already peeled. Not a big fan of the potato salad--take it or leave it..

Saw this on TV and stopped by on our road trip from southern California to New Orleans. We were ever so glad that we did. Wait staff were friendly and efficient. Started with a hot loaf of delicious bread from a local bakery. Wife ordered pecan crusted catfish and I had the crawfish pie. She usually orders her fish grilled but waxed ecstatically about her entree's flavor. As to the crawfish pie--OMG! Crawfish étouffée between flaky puff pastry--absolutely delicious. Definitely worth the short trip off the I-10.

I am from Breaux Bridge but currently live in Baton Rouge. This is a GREAT place to take friends from out of town, especially on a Saturday morning. :) If you go during the Saturday morning Zydeco Breakfast, there will be a wait if you want to eat. But the band is playing, everyone's dancing, and they've got pre-cherried and pre-veggied glasses so they can serve you your mimosas/bloody marys non-stop until you get to sit. And most people are courteous and don't linger at their table once they are finished eating (which is somewhat surprising since it's mostly tourists), so it's not so bad. Breakfast: Their breakfast is so great! I don't eat meat, so I usually just get a veggie omelet with cheese grits. But everyone I have taken has gone crazy for the eggs with crawfish etouffee. The beignets and pancakes are also delicious. Lunch: I have only been there for lunch one time. I ordered the fried-green tomatoes and a salad with the house-made peppercorn dressing. The tomatoes left a lot to be desired, but it could be because I didn't eat them with the clam sauce or whatever it comes with. They were completely tasteless because the batter had no seasoning at all. It's not their specialty though, so I'm not gonna hold it against them! The peppercorn dressing was terrific. Dessert: Their bread pudding is heavenly. Order it with vanilla ice cream! Root beer floats are also good. Other: The hot sauces they have on the tables (the ones with the "Cade Des Amis" labels) are too vinegary. I usually ask for tabasco.

Oh my gosh! I loved this place! I really loved the aesthetic. Vintage building, brick walls, wood floors, stone and wooden bar. Blues music playing in the background. Check out the pictures that people have posted. We had lunch and it was just delicious. I ordered the seafood corn chowder and a caesar salad. I was a bit worried when they brought me the salad, because it was tossed with quite a bit of dressing, but the dressing was so good! I ate every morsel. The chowder was mild and flavorful. Yum. Hubby had the crawfish sandwich. The crawfish tails were nice and large and the batter was really nice and crispy. We also had the lump crabmeat cakes. Very nice. For dessert, we had the coconut creme pie and my god, it was insanely delicious!! The BEST I've ever had. Period. Service was attentive and friendly. Oh, how I wish we had this restaurant in Oak Park!!

You. Must. Stop. Here. If you are traveling down I10, this is your place. If you live within a 30 mile radius, this is your place. If you're a local, I'm insanely jealous... and this is probably already your place. Cool building with history? Check. Small town Southern hospitality? Check. Warm, elegant ambience? Check. Signature appetizer? Chack (crawfish cornbread) Best gumbo in Louisiana? Check. And we haven't even made it to their entres and deserts... Do yourself a favor and try this place out. As soon as possible.

This place is just absurdly cute and good. It gets really crowded on the weekends, so take that into account. Apparently, it's very close to the I 10 highway and easy to get to- I stay in St. Martinville when I'm in the area, so I'm not sure- totally different route than others would take. They do breakfast on weekends, brunch on Sundays, and lunch and dinner daily. The brunch is a whole fais do do affair with music and dancing, and it is packed and popular. They often have live music during dinner, too- it's good to keep in mind that they have a cover charge they add to your bill. The food is so good. They have the best etouffee, and you can get it just about any way. The standard with rice method, or with eggs, in an omelette, atop another fish- they do quite a few things with the stuff. They have eggs with boudin- there is no going wrong with that, in my book. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything here. I've had just about everything here and it's all pretty much perfect execution of the Cajun classics. I never get desserts, but I recommend you do here. They're all great, but the gateau sirop is heaven. You can either dance it off or walk it off in the Cajun cuteness that is Breaux Bridge, Crawfish Capital of the World. The WHOLE world, baby!

Drove in from Houston on a Saturday afternoon with my family. I had previously been here and had quite a pleasant experience. Sad to say that this was not the case for my 2nd visit. The wait staff was pretty rude and the food was not up to par compared to my first visit. I made a request for a substitution but was told that I couldn't do that. No big deal. I just ordered it as a side dish. My sister also ordered a side dish of the mac and cheese which was cold. Ended up paying 60 bucks for 2 poboys and a lunch plate, the sides and 3 drinks. Didn't feel like it was worth it at all. To top it off when the waitress brought the bill it was more than it should have been. She said that she charged more by mistake because the prices on the menu always change. I'm not sure if there's been a change in management or something but I will not be returning to this establishment when visiting Breaux Bridge in the future.

I had the crawfish and shrimp etouffe half and half, and the white chocolate bread pudding. Both were amazing. :))

When a restaurant has a reputation as stellar as Cafe des Amis does, it's usually not surprising to end up being a little disappointed when you try it for the first time. As noted elsewhere here, the restaurant, located in an old storefront in "downtown" Breaux Bridge, is most famous for its zydeco breakfast, which sounds like a unique madhouse. But we went for lunch at about 2 pm on a Saturday, when things at Cafe des Amis are quite a bit more sedate. Instead of live zydeco, we got 1980s Top 40 hits, likely from a Sirius satellite station. Anyway, the room is still a charming one, kind of a cross between a shabby-chic cafe and a nicer restaurant, with autographs covering just about every painted spot that is not exposed brick. Tables are nicely spaced for maximum comfort (and, of course, for madcap rug-cutting on Sunday mornings). The food is a relatively straightforward Cajun line-up: crawfish pie & etouffee; catfish, crab, & shrimp dishes; hearty meat dishes. Ordered the fried catfish with crawfish etoufee. The catfish had a nice light, slightly crusty breading and was perfectly cooked, and the crawfish were cooked properly as well, but this dish fit into a category that is pretty rare south of I-10 in Louisiana: it was kinda bland and underseasoned. My brother ordered the oven roasted rabbit with white-wine gravy, which I got to sample and which was tender and, in contrast to my order, had some seriously bold flavor. For some reason, our gumbo and turtle soup, while otherwise excellent, were only a hair above lukewarm. This lunch, if mildly disappointing, was still quite good. If I can't endorse Cafe des Amis as a can't-miss experience--at least not at a time other than the zydeco breakfast--it's well worth the two-mile side-trip if you're hurtling down I-10 and are looking for a more-or-less authentic Cajun food experience.

Cafe des Amis may be my favorite Cajun restaurant in the great state of Louisiana. Day after thanksgiving with family-- frantically searching for a lunch place around 1:45pm. CDA closes at 2pm and they gratefully snuck us in before the buzzer. I had the crawfish pie, which had a perfectly flaky crust and a spicily seasoned filling. I've never had crawfish pie, but I'm certain this will be impossible to top. I had bites of the pecan crusted catfish, the mufaletta, and the linguine with tasso. It's hard to decide which of these plates was the best, as all were incredibly fresh and tasty. The catfish had a perfect crunch on it while keeping moist; the mufaletta made me a believer, as I previously didn't like them; and the linguine was perfectly cooked and seasoned. You can't go wrong with any choice here. A quick nod to the delicious crawfish cornbread. I miss you.

It should be against the law for Cafe Des Amis to exist because everything is delicious and puts you into the kind of food coma where your brain tells your body it is okay to fall asleep while you are driving back to Houston.

OK... Had lunch here several years ago and thought it was pretty good. Had dinner there tonight 4/23/14. I usually sit at the bar when I am out of town on business (able to watch TV, talk to bartender or other patrons, etc.). Well, a Wednesday night and NO BARTENDER at all on duty. Two waitresses that had three tables each. Waited almost 10 minutes just to get a drink. Waited 20-30 minutes before my order was taken. Started off with a cup of chix and sausage gumbo. UNACCEPTABLE for south LA!!! Doesn't hold a candle vs. Prejean's! Since I'm a light eater, I just went with the crab cake appetizer after that. Advertised as LUMP crab... NOT!!! Somewhat over cooked and dry... Disappointing... However, the vidalia onion sauce was KILLER!!! I will try it again, maybe... That said, the gals serving were nice just short staffed... I hope y'all have better luck than I did. BTW... We have a restaurant in Kingwood, TEXAS that has better gumbo than cafe Des Ami... Sorry, but no excuse for that!

I love this restaurant! We traveled to Breaux Bridge as a side trip to a recent trip to New Orleans. We went here on a Wednesday night and they had a Zydeco band. People were dancing and having a great time. We even tried dancing for a minute, what fun! The atmosphere is artful, casual and totally blissful. The food was really good. It was not perfectly cooked (thus only 4 stars) but it was tasty none-the-less. Alligator quiche was not the alligator cheesecake I had read about online. And they didn't even have the crab cheesecake on the menu so we ordered crab cakes instead (too bad too, we were really looking forward to the crab cheesecake). The crab cakes were tasty but a touch overdone. My husband ordered the stuffed fish and gave it 5 stars. I had the duck which was also very tasty. The garlic mashed potatoes were stiff and dry so I barely touched them. I really like the hot sauce and will be purchasing a bottle online for my own use at home. By the way, the staff was really friendly and attentive and busy. I will definitely be coming back here again.

Have not been here in several years. It is hard for a place to maintain consistency but these folks have done so. Awesome food to remind me of what good food we have in South Louisiana. Great breakfast today.

Cafe DES Amis is deelishh! I came here as we were on a road trip Texas. My only complaint is that it is too far from New Orleans! It was a true Cajun Breakfast. From the decor to our waiter's accent. We ordered: Orielle de Cochon- Surprisingly it was good! Who would of thought something fried almost crepe like stuffed with Boudin and topped off with powered sugar would be so good? Two thumbs up! Sweet Potato Pancakes- Dessert for breakfast is the best way to explain this dish. Two perfectly cooked Sweet Potato Pancakes topped off with Pecan Praline, this is divine! It tastes just like Sweet Potato Bread Pudding. Big Hat Omelette with Crawfish Etouffee- The omelette was good but the best part was the etouffee! This also came with a side of Andouille Cheese Grit...it would of been better if the grits were cooked right. This as Cajun as it just for breakfast. For an authentic Louisiana cooked breakfast, we came to the right spot. I can't wait for my next visit!

The saturday zydeco breakfast was one of the best travel experiences I've had in my life. Driving from South Carolina to California I was lucky enough to stay in Breaux Bridge on a friday night. I made it to Cafe Des Amis at 8:40AM on Saturday morning thinking I may beat the crowd--not a chance. Not usually one for loud crowds in the morning I was initially a little put off when I walked up to the loud, crowded building. I couldn't see past the crowd milling about outside and I was asked to pay $5 just to walk in the door. I decided that I was already there and you only live once, so I made myself pay up and go inside. Since I was traveling alone the hostess said she would be able to fit me in fairly quickly. I went up to the bar for a mimosa and instantly got chatted up by a friendly gentleman who was from Atlanta who travels to this place a few times a year just because he loves it so much. He told me that I should see it when it's busy. ha! It was packed. Soon I finished my second mimosa and shortly thereafter I had a seat at a table with a few other people (about a 35 minute wait until I got seated at a group table). I wasn't very hungry--I mainly went for the experience, so I wasn't too put off by the fact that it took the waitress about 15 minutes to notice me packed in with the other people who already had food at the table. She felt terrible and was sincerely apologetic. In the meantime a friendly lady offered me some of her families' order of beignets. Delicious! While I waited quite a while for my food I danced with the locals and the traveling man from Atlanta. This was so fun! The dance floor is packed with people in ages mainly from their 30s to their 80s (maybe some older). And everyone dances with everyone. It is a great mixture of blacks and whites and I found it so awesome that in a small southern town that old white women were having a blast dancing with old black men and viseaversa. My food eventually came after a while. I had the eggs des amis with scrambled eggs and the cheese and andouille sausage grits. It was fabulous although I could only eat a third of the meal. I also had a cafe au lait. It was mediocre--not very hot and a little too sweet and milky (I didn't know they added sugar ahead of time, and I don't like sugar in my coffee, so my bad). The waitress was so apologetic about how slow it was and how she felt I had been very neglected. I was having such a great time that I really didn't care and I wasn't in a hurry and I assured her it was no problem, but she insisted on not letting me pay for my meal. They take the $5 cover off the cost of food anyway, but it was a really nice gesture. The cafe was filled with an incredible energy and the friendliest bunch of folks I have ever encountered. I was super impressed by the experience. I would love to go back for dinner and try the other delicious sounding options.

A lovely brunch place, although without the live music this isn't a standout brunch spot. The crawfish pie was OK, a little lighter than what I was expecting but welcomed considering how heavy the food is down here. My friend had the pecan catfish which was superb. Although I must say, the turtle soup was better than Commander's, with good chunks of turtle meat still retaining some of the earthy flavors .

We stopped here for a quick bite to eat on on way back to NOLA after our swamp tour, and I'm glad we did. We had three appetizers and the bread pudding for dessert (pics uploaded). All three appetizers were mighty tasty and the bread pudding is not to be missed. Extremely friendly staff and a great space. They welcomed us back for brunch the next day and said it's what they are known for. I would have loved to have stayed longer. If you are in the area, this is not to be missed.

I admit that since the first time I lived in Lafayette as a teenager, went to my first "Cuchon de Lait", drank wine and kissed my first Cajun girl... that I'm a freak for Cajun anything. But I've lived in Breaux Bridge twice now, most recently just down the street from Cafe Des Amis, and I really love the Zydeco brunch on Saturday mornings. The food and drink, the music, the dancing, the absolute lack of anything pretentious... Well, it's all part of a place, a culture, and people I'm proud to have real friends in. So if you have the opportunity, take a drive to this little cafe, try a Saturday morning, or at least try the food. There's no better place to be.

I don't know what goes on here during normal hours, but the Saturday Zydeco breakfast is GREAT FUN! We arrived at 9:00am for breakfast, and the dance party was well underway. The locals at Cafe des Amis are open and friendly, and love dancing with new faces. Music was great, the zydeco bloody mary was great, the breakfast was great. It seems that some people reviewing this restaurant had to wait a long time for a seat and breakfast... that did not happen to us. We were sat immediately, and were sipping our drinks quickly thereafter.

I just moved to Lafayette from Seattle, and this is already my favorite place here! My dad just came to visit me last weekend and we went here. Twice. In one weekend. Yeah, it's that awesome. The first morning was Saturday during their Zydeco breakfast, which is fucking AMAZING. We didn't eat because all the tables were full and there was a long wait (so plan on having a back-up if you come Saturday mornings). BUT, after grabbing some amazing donuts at Meche's, we ventured back over to enjoy the music and atmosphere. It was a great time. We were so amazed because the music, dancing, drinking, singing, laughing, and just plain fun early on a Saturday morning is something you will find NO WHERE else in the country. Maybe even the world. Seriously. We went again the next morning on Sunday to actually eat this time. It was way slower than the day before, but no less amazing. The servers were super awesome. Conversational, they actually cared about us and it went beyond taking our orders and bringing our plates. The food was really, really good. Great Cajun breakfast items (Boudin, Crawfish etoufee, grits, etc). Oh, and they sell T-shirts! My dad bought two as souvenirs and they look really cool. And while you're at it, check out Breaux Bridge. Such a cute little town with the Southern charm you see in movies. While my dad and I were standing on their bridge taking pictures, some lady in a car stopped, rolled down her window and said cheerfully "Welcome to the town!" Need I say more? Anyway, I love this place, and I will DEFINITELY be back. I'm seriously bringing everyone who visits me here, because it is a MUST SEE and MUST EAT!

Was looking forward to an exciting time with the family at the Zydeco breakfast. Got there early enough but was extremely disappointed. They have their own rules, and if you don't know what they are you are out of luck. Service was not good and our waitress was somewhat rude. But, she can be since there is a 20% gratuity added to each breakfast ticket automatically. Which, we would have walked put before we even ordered breakfast because of our experience but we had already paid the $5 cover (which is deducted from the ticket only when you order breakfast). Our waitress also forgot two people's orders and also messed up the ticket. Wish the family could have enjoyed this experience but we all walked away disappointed. However, the music and dancing was exciting and made for a great atmosphere.

Highly recommend this place. Its a little drive from Lafayette (about 20 min). Take the back way, much prettier drive than the freeway. Waitress recommended the crawfish au gratin. She was right with this choice. Came over biscuits with eggs. Everybody on here recommends the Zydeco breakfast, Im not a fan of mushrooms or bell peppers, so I passed on that. Plan to spend some time in the area, its a great downtown area. Lunch looks to get quite expense, luckily I was there for breakfast and the prices were reasonable. They make a decent cup of coffee too.

Of the 10 very good restaurants we ate at during our trip to Louisiana, this was the best. What turned a 4 star into a 5 star rating, was the white chocolate bread pudding. Now I love anything with white chocolate on it, but even my picky family agreed that it was an exceptionally refined, perfectly balanced and memorably delicious dessert. We tried ordering similar dishes in NOLA and elsewhere, but all were clumsy and messy by comparison. The rest of the experience was equally smooth, light, upbeat, and enjoyable: service, decor, music, turtle soup, and other entrees. Highly recommended!

People told us about the Zydeco breakfast and how it is legendary with the locals. Sadly we could not make it Saturday so we went to lunch on Sunday. There were some interesting dishes. Crawfish cornbread and Eggplant with a crawfish and cheese sauce as well as your traditional half and half, sandwiches and pastas. The dishes were very inventive but the food really did not taste that good. If I had not heard the rumors and read the reviews my thought would be never to come back. My theory is they use a backup chef or something on Sunday because they work limited hours. If I do go back, it will surely be on some other day or hopefully the Saturday breakfast.

We were driving through Lafayette and we wanted something we hadn't tried before. I found this place out in Breaux Bridge, LA that had some good reviews, so we decided to head off the beaten path and try it out. We made a reservation on the way to the restaurant, hoping that we wouldn't have a long wait. When we arrived, we realized we didn't need to call ahead afterall. There was maybe 8 tables filled when we got there at 6:30pm for dinner. The place had a pretty neat vibe to it. When you first walk in, you are greeted by the hostess stand, which is an old gear shaft from an elevator that used to be there. The walls were exposed brick and the wood accents had signatures all over them from the artists that contributed to the eatery. In the front display windows, one side had a table for patrons, and the other had a couple couches with a coffee table (my guess was that it was for people who had to wait for their table). Almost everything we ordered was amazing! Here is what we had: *Appetizers: shrimp kidder, crawfish ettouffee cornbread The shrimp kidder was tempura shrimp on a bed of lettuce, with a honey sauce drizzle and pecans on top. Delish! The Crawfish Ettouffe Cornbread was also good. I'm not a cornbread person myself, but the Crawfish ettouffee was the best I've ever eaten. It was so good, that I decided to get my entree just because it was included on it. *Entrees: chicken breast with crawfish etoffee, flounder with crabmeat I had the chicken breast with crawfish etouffee. It was amazing. It was served with potato salad (I know, it sounded like a werid combination to me too), which was a perfect combination because it helped to cut the heat from the spices in the ettouffee. One person I was with had the flouder with crabmeat and it was also good (though I prefered mine). *Sides: Mac and cheese, turtle soup We ordered one side of the mac and cheese and one cup of the turtle soup. The turtle soup was just okay. If you can make it, get the turtle soup at Brennan's in Houston or New Orleans instead. The mac and cheese was downright gross. It was basically a ramican filled with macaroni noodles with a hard crust of parmesean cheese on top. I don't know about you, but I like my mac and cheese with some sauce to it. *Dessert: syrup cake, white chocolate bread pudding I do not like bread pudding...usually. But this bread pudding was AMAZING! It melted in your mouth - literally. It was SO good. The syrup cake was good too, but once I tried the bread pudding, I was hooked and there was no going back! We went for dinner, but I heard the thing to do there is their brunch. They have music and it's supposed to be a good time. But don't take my word on it - you must try out Cafe Des Amis.

Food: 5. Crawfish Etoufee was just great, well balanced and well done. Atmosphere: 5 We were there on live music night; we happened to catch a great singer from Quebec. The restaurant itself also has a very local vibe, with people going to other tables and greeting each other. Service: 2 Food came out at wrong times 2 plates cleared, then a third 15 minutes later server wasn't particularly warm herself little things just weren't there. Overall, it was a great experience. The service didn't deter too much from it.

Giving this a 2 because it is a really cute place with good atmosphere. While traveling from New Orleans to Texas we searched for the best lunch place In Breaux Bridges and after reading all the great reviews decided on Cafe Des Amis. The lunch menu on the website was exactly what we were after. When we arrived we were very pleased with the atmosphere but unfortunately it stops there. We opened the menus only to find the dinner entrees and when we asked for the lunch menus were told they don't serve lunch. I showed the waitress the website and she told me they were under new management and didn't serve lunch on Saturdays. (Does not say this on the website). It took a very long time for our food to come out and the quality was poor at best. The food had obviously been sitting in the window for quite some time. The crawfish cornbread app was thick and pasty. My daughter's Caesar salad was warm like it had been sitting under the lamp with the hot food. Also, the salads appeared to have been pre-mixed before service rather than made to order as the lettuce was wilted. My husband never got the bread he asked for with his gumbo (the gumbo was good). I ordered the Mac and cheese side for my daughter and it was a hard clump that I had to cut for her. Lackluster service and poor food quality make this cute restaurant a disappointment.

You have to come for the zydeco brunch on saturday mornings!!!! The food is delicious and the energy is incredible. The band starts playing at 8am but you need to get there early to get a seat. They make you pay a $5 cover to get in but it is refunded after you have had a meal. We had so much fun with our out of town guests! What a blast!

A buddy of mine and I were on the way to Venice, LA for a guided off-shore fishing trip and I picked this place ahead of time based on the reviews. Interesting place. It's an old building in a downtown "strip mall" location. The location is great, the bar is a literal work of art and the food matches. Absolutely some of the finest table fare this Texas boy has ever had the pleasure of ingesting. The wait staff was attentive and the place was quiet. Nice romantic place. NOW, understand- I was with one of my hunting/fishing buddies, not my wife. So, our conversation would not be one acceptable in polite company. So, keep that in mind. I would DEFINITELY come to this place with my wife, but I would have chosen another place for a fishing trip. I was looking for authentic Cajun food. This was not the place for that. There are also a couple of antique shops along the street and a fine jewelry/clock shop. The wife would love it.

I've never had a bad meal at Café Des Amis. I wouldn't say that it's the best place for a visitor to sample authentic Cajun cuisine, but the food has always been delicious and the atmosphere relaxed. The soft shell crab I had there recently was one of the best I've ever tasted. I've never gone for the famous zydeco breakfast, but noise level has never been a problem. Look for Ali Landry's signature on the wall!

Café des Amis was a great find on our way from Austin, TX to NOLA. The place is quaint and welcoming. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and thought it might be busy but, to our surprise, it was rather quiet. We started our meal with the Crawfish Stuffed Mushrooms in Wine Butter per recommendation of our waitress. They were an ok appetizer. The mushrooms lacked some of the acidity that only the sauce had, as if they needed to be cooked in the broth rather than just broiled and then put in the sauce. We followed with the Crawfish Etouffee and the Fried Crawfish Croissant. This was the turning point for this meal. Both dishes were excellently well seasoned, very tasty, and surprisingly large. The comment we made about their crawfish was that it was not fishy, as happens with not so fresh product. We finalized the meal with their white chocolate pudding which, being modest, was a piece of heaven. It was rich yet light and succulent. Nothing like other puddings I've had in the past. It was difficult to not order another one! Overall, our experience at Café des Amis was good and we look forward to visiting again.

We had a perfectly good, though undistinguished lunch here. Noting was bad, but the gumbo was on the watery side and nothing was particularly strongly flavored. The decor worked too hard at being pseudo-New Orleans/Cajun. The service was slow.

On our way to NOLA, we chanced on this wonderful place. Only after-the-fact did we learn that our well-traveled Southern friends loved it too. (1) Food: Excellent! Five stars. Six stars! I want to return and eat more! The two of us ordered Redfish Court-bouillon and Crawfish Pie. Each dish was spectacular. We're not southern at all, and so this restaurant was a kind of gateway to a new cuisine. And the prices seemed totally reasonable. It was absolutely delicious. (2) Service: Adequate, but amateur, lacking in polish and knowledge. We asked our waitress about corn maque choux, because we'd never heard of such a thing, and she said, "It's like cream of corn soup?" (turns out it's not at all). We also asked about the "red sauce," and she couldn't answer that either, so she called over another waiter, who snorted and actually said, "I'm not in the kitchen when they make it." Like, did you really just say that? Look, I don't expect waiters to be able to answer all manner of ridiculous questions, and I'm sure they get some ridiculous questions from people who are hyper-fixated on local/organic/heirloom/cruelty-free foods. But it is reasonable for servers to answer basic questions about the menu, especially at this price-point. I'm from out of state; I'd never even heard of many of the things on the menu, and I was dying to try them all, but needed a little help narrowing down my feast. But I'd go back in hot second and order twice as much food.

You know those moments in life when everything seems right with the world. Those moments when there isn't one thing you would change. Those moments you wish wouldn't end. Zydeco Breakfast at Café Des Amis is one of those moments for me. Be sure to go on a day where there is live music. And be sure to linger. And dance.

We found this little gem on our trip back to Dallas from New Orleans. We arrived at 2pm on Sunday which was 30 mins before they closed. I was a little worried we'd be rushed by the waiterstaff and cooks but everyone was extremely friendly. Our fried green tomato appetizer super good. I had the crawfish pie which was crawfish etoufee served over a flakey light bread. My dining partner had crawfish etoufee with fried shrimp and crawfish. Each dish was served with side of yummy cold potato salad and a small ramekin of warm black eyed peas. The sweet tea was a bit too sweet for me but that's how they drink sweet tea - super sweet. If you're looking for a diversion on your way down I-10 .. this place is a great place to stop.

Sent here by the manager of our Orel. It was a quick walk, maybe 10 minutes and was probably the most delicious breakfast ever. I got the poached eggs with boudin sausage. I asked to skip, the crawfish étouffée to top it. Perfect for me, delicious coffee. Husband got a killer breakfast sandwich with bacon, eggs, cheese, boudin.

This morning I attended the Zydeco Breakfast at Cafe Des Amis with my parents. We enjoyed a great breakfast while we got to listen to some awesome zydeco music by John Wilson & The Zydeco House Rockers. I had a mimosa and the Eggs Begnaud (a grilled biscuit with crawfish etouffee and a poached egg with a side of buttered grits), my dad had a Bloody Mary and the Eggs Des Amis (biscuit with grilled boudin patty, swiss cheese and scrambled eggs on top with a side of cheese grits), and my mom also enjoyed a Blood Mary with the beignets. My food was incredible. I wish there had been more crawfish, but I really can't complain. The biscuit was nice and buttery, it was then topped with the etoufee and then a soft poached egg. The grits needed some pepper but they were so good! I had one of my mom's beignets. They were delicious, but not the best I've ever had. They were a little too dense for my taste. The atmosphere was great. Cool art on the wall, exposed break, original wood dance floor and a live zydeco band. Service was a little slow, but it was because the place was packed and not just figuratively with a bunch of customers, but literally packed tightly with people on the dance floor and others standing in the aisles. Also when I asked the waitress how the chef recommended the eggs to be served with the Eggs Begnaud she couldn't come up with answer. I'm pretty sure this is a big tourist spot and I can't be the only person who has asked this question. The negative things are as follows: There is a $4 cover charge to get into the restaurant for the Zydeco Breakfast. You can get the $4 back as long as you order an entree. Since my mom ordered beignets, we only got $8 off our bill. That's another thing, they don't take it off automatically, you have to ask for it to be taken off. Also, during the Zydeco Breakfast a 25% gratuity is added to all checks. That is not a typo - 25%. These are the things that would prevent me from going back to the Zydeco Breakfast, but not to Cafe Des Amis altogether because of the awesome food. All in all it was a fantastic experience. Something I would recommend to anyone. Fantastic food and drinks and incomparable atmosphere make this something really special.

Zydeco Breakfast... WOW! It can get very crowded, and normally a wall to wall crowd in a restaurant is a big negative for me, but the atmosphere inside is electric. Within a minute, I was no longer viewing the crowd as a negative, but in fact, it was an irreplaceable part of the overall experience. I had the boudin omelet and andouille cheese grits. Chase it , or lead for that matter, with a memorable bloody mary and the trip to Breaux Bridge will be one you are eager to repeat. Everyone should have the opportunity to experience the Zydeco Breakfast at least once.

Have been coming here about once a year for a decade whenever I visit LA. Never had the pleasure of attending the zydeco breakfasts though. Even so, it's a very nice restaurant, and Breaux Bridge is worth the visit. The food and sauces are always great - I recommend turtle soup and rabbit. Portions are small so if you eat like me (my condolences) plan on an appetizer or soup and/or desert. The chocolate pecan pie is about as good as it sounds.

I recently experienced Louisiana for the first time when I went to speak at a conference in Lafayette. A very gracious host and his wife treated me to dinner at Cafe Des Amis to give me a taste of authentic Cajun cuisine. I say that to establish that I'm no expert on Cajun food, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I really enjoyed this place. There was a four-piece ensemble playing Cajun music. This made it a bit more difficult to converse, but I liked it anyway. At the recommendation of my hosts, I tried the shrimp gumbo, which I found to be very tastey. I also had the crawfish etouffee (my first taste of crawfish). Once again, I thought it tasted great. I tried a local microbrew, and we topped off the meal with a vanilla bread pudding. There were a lot of folks there who were apparently local regulars. It created a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere that one doesn't find in a lot of restaurants any more. The service was very good. (I wish I could remember our server's name, so I could give her credit.) I enjoyed my evening at Cafe Des Amis. I'm speaking at the same conference in Lafayette next year, and I hope to visit this restaurant again at that time.

Do NOT take your vegetarian friends here! You may feel a little inhibited because the turtle soup and alligator quiche are more up Anthony Bourdain's style than Alice Waters. Thankfully, I was with my friend Jonathan who has quite the adventurous palate. For those willing to eat but not any of the swamp creatures there is a whole array of down-home choices. Who can beat beignets and a Zydeco breakfast? Breaux Bridge is nestled in the heart of Cajun country and the most wonderful charming town. Not to mention, it's the Crawfish capital of the U.S.. Go, Go, Go!

Food was very good. The bisque and BBQ shrimp were very good. The crab cakes weren't bad but certainly not the best I would like to try the zydeco breakfast.

Breaux Bridge is a small little town just outside of Lafayette. You literally blink and you'll miss it. But hidden in their downtown is this fabulous little Creole restaurant with the most mouth-watering crawfish etouffee and fresh-baked bread. Hands down the best etouffee I've had in the area, and definitely a hundred times better than what they serve tourists in the French Quarter in New Orleans. If you're out here to catch a swamp tour, drop by for a quick bite. Prices are fairly reasonable.

I have always enjoyed going here until this past weekend. I have owned and operated a Cajun restaurant in Galveston, Tx. for over twenty years and have often sent people to you. I was there and it was taking a while, which was expected. no-one in my party complained or even said anything to the waitress as we were enjoying the music and knew we didn't have to leave until we got our food. Our waitress told us she was going to tell the manager it was taking too long. the manager came over and informed us the order had been in for 25 minutes. I said that was not right but we were ok. said we had not complained. she then said it takes one hour thirty minutes. we said we had been there before so expected the wait. she said she had been there twelve years so she didn't care. we told her we weren't complaining. she then said to make up our minds. how long had we been there? what was it, one hour or two? very sarcastic. she argued with every thing we said to difuse the situation. she completely ruined a wonderful family reunion for no reason. as a restaurant owner I know better than to treat my patrons this way. I will never go back, the others in my party will never go back, and I will tell others going that way about this rude manager.

This is as Louisiana as it gets. Waking up early on Saturday to hit a Zydeco Breakfast. Wait in line and enjoy the Zydeco music with your Bloody Mary in hand. Once you make it inside, you join in on the dancing. Your number is called and you take your seat the crawfish dishes are amazing and you might as well have a beignet as well. Great music, great dancing, and you get to sit with people that you don't know if your party is small. It really is letting the good times roll.

Wonderful, friendly, little place in the historic center of Breaux Bridge. Our food was excellent. The gumbo was delicious. The white chocolate bread pudding is superb. On Wednesday nights, they have live music and on Saturday mornings, they have an extremely popular Zydeco breakfast. This place is a little gem in Cajun country.
